AL, Sheikh family should apologise for Mujib, Hasina's roles

The interim government’s adviser Mahfuj Alam said on Wednesday that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family and his party, the Awami League, should apologise for Sheikh Hasina's authoritarian rule. “They should recognise, apologise, and face trials for Sheikh Mujib’s daughter’s fascist regime. She has turned Sheikh Mujib into a subject of sarcasm and ridicule. They should also abandon the politics of Mujibism and the idolisation of the Sheikh family,” he wrote in his verified Facebook post early Wednesday.
The adviser said both Sheikh Mujib and his daughter faced the wrath and anger of the people for their respective fascist regimes.
“The only difference is that, unlike Hasina, Sheikh Mujib was once a popular demagogue among the masses of eastern Bengal. The masses followed him against Pakistani tyranny, but he became a tyrant himself after '71. Due to his support for and patronage of Mujibism, Bangladesh became crippled and divided after '71. For his fascist role, people did not mourn his death in 1975,” Mahfuj Alam said.
He continued, “Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will enjoy honor for his pre-‘71 roles if his party and family members apologise to the people of Bangladesh for Sheikh Mujib’s post-'71 mass killings, enforced disappearances, corruption, famine, and, of course, the ‘72 Constitution, which paved the way for BAKSHAL.”
Referring to the removal of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s photo from Bangabhaban, the adviser said officials had taken down his photo because of his daughter’s fascist rule, which followed the same spirit as her father’s post-'71 authoritarianism.
“Her father was deified, but the people of Bangladesh brought down both of their pictures, murals, and sculptures after the July Uprising,” he added.
