After 15- hr train service resumes on Sylhet route : Passengers suffer on way due to schedule disruption, 5- member probe body formed

After a long 15 hours, train movement across the country with Sylhet has become normal on Saturday morning.

The Udayan Express inter-city train from Chittagong derailed along with 3 coaches at Lauachhara on the Sylhet-Akhaura rail section.

OC of Srimangal Railway Police Station Raihan Uddin told The Country Today that the rescue work was completed at 7:50 pm.

A 5-member investigation committee has been formed by the Railway Department in this incident.

The committee convened by Khairul Kabir, transport officer of the railway department, has made members of the divisional mechanical engineer (people), divisional mechanical engineer (carriage), divisional engineer (Dhaka-2) and divisional engineer (signal and telecommunication). They visited the accident site on Saturday afternoon.

After receiving information about the incident, two Relief trains from Akhaura and Kulaura stations reached the spot and completed the rescue work after a long effort. Train movement on this route has been normalized on Saturday at 8 pm. According to the railway sources, the journey of modern intercity train Kalni and Jayantika Express train of Dhaka-Sylhet route in both directions was canceled due to the accident.

Sylhet -Akhaura Section Kulaura Railway Junction Station Master Md. Ruman Ahmad told 'The Country Today' that the passengers of the canceled Jayantika and Kalni Express trains have been informed to return their tickets and take their money. He also said that due to the derailment of the coach at Lauachhara, there has been a schedule disaster.

The Railway authorities have canceled 4 journeys of Dhaka-bound and Sylhet-bound Kalni Express and Jayantika Express.
As a result, 2 trains to and from Dhaka were canceled 2 times in total 4 times. Srimangal to Parabat Express train will run on Dhaka route. Apart from this, today's movement of Chittagong route Paharika Express inter-city train is also uncertain. It is known that thousands of train passengers on the Dhaka-Sylhet and Sylhet-Chittagong route were in trouble due to the sudden accident. These passengers suffered extreme suffering on the way throughout the day.

Train passenger Mizanur Rahman was supposed to go to Dhaka from Shamsernagar station in Moulvibazar district. He expressed his disappointment and said, I woke up in the morning and got bad news.

According to railway sources, 3 coaches and engine of the Udayan Express train leaving Chittagong derailed at Lauachhara on Saturday (May 20) at 5 am.

There were no reports of casualties, but since the incident, Sylhet train movement along with the rest of the country has been stopped.
According to railway sources, first the derailed carriage and engine were separated and taken to Srimangal station. Deputy Inspector (SI) Raihan of Srimangal Railway Police Station confirmed the matter and said that the engine and 3 coaches of Sylhet-bound Udayan Express Internagar train derailed at 5 am on Saturday (May 20) in Lauachhara National Park area of Sylhet Akhaura rail section.

It is learnt that a tree was leaning on the railway line in the Lauachhara National Park area during the Kalbaisakhi storm late on Friday night. Engine and 3 coaches of Udayan Express Antanagar train derailed due to collision with that tree. Since then the rail communication between Sylhet and Chittagong and Dhaka has been stopped.
