The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against the Sub-registrar of the Shariatpur Sadar sub-registry office, AKM Faiz Uliah, on the charge of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 3 crore 13 lakh 84 thousand.

Deputy director of the organization in the Dhaka integrated district office of the ACC. Mostafizur Rahman filed the case yesterday on Sunday as the plaintiff. A senior ACC source confirmed the matter.

According to the affidavit of the case, AKM Faiz Ullah joined the post of Sub-Registrar under the Directorate of Registration as a Mujibnagar employee on September 9, 2009.

During the investigation, the information of 9 crore 2 lakh 28 thousand taka in movable and immovable assets was found in 15 years from the fiscal year 2010-2011 to the fiscal year 2023-2024. His notable assets include lands and flats in Bashundhara, Banashree, Gandaria, Badda, Laxmibazar and Rajuk in Uttara.

It is also mentioned in the declaration that at that time he earned a total income of 4 crore 85 lakh 93 thousand 861 taka from salary, house rent receipt, interest on FDR and other bank deposits, from agriculture sector and sale of land and flat and total family expenses including payment of income tax 89 Lakh 79 thousand 565 Taka. During that period, he whitewashed Tk 2 crore 25 lakhs by showing income tax returns under section 'A' of Income Tax Ordinance 19, 1984, taxed at the rate of 10 percent.

However, he could not provide acceptable evidence about the source of 1 crore 22 lakh 50 thousand out of that money.

Meanwhile, the legal source of Tk 5 crore 88 lakh 43 thousand 861 out of the assets of Tk 9 crore 228 thousand 169 acquired including movable and immovable was found, but the evidence of acquisition of assets inconsistent with the known source of income of Tk 3 crore 13 lakh 84 thousand 308 was found due to ACC Act, 27 of 2004 ( 1) Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
