7 members of drug-induced easy-bike robbery gang arrested in Munshiganj

District Detective Police in Munshiganj have arrested seven members of an inter-district gang that robbed easy-bikes by drugging or killing drivers with sedatives. During the operation, police recovered six stolen easy-bikes, two easy-bike chassis, a packet of biscuits laced with sedatives, and a wireless set.
The arrest was announced during a press briefing at 1:00 PM on Monday at the Superintendent of Police’s office, by Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar.
According to the SP, the gang had long been posing as passengers in Munshiganj and surrounding districts, luring easy-bike drivers to remote locations under various pretexts. They would then serve them sedative-laced food or drinks, rendering them unconscious or killing them, and steal their easy-bikes. Later, the stolen vehicles were taken to garages where the chassis would be separated, repainted, and sold.
Most recently, on 2 August at around 10:00 AM, three members of the gang robbed an easy-bike from driver Maloy Sheikh in Noapara area of Sirajdikhan after making him unconscious with sedative-laced biscuits.
Following the incident, on the instructions of the SP, a DB team led by SI Kamrul Hasan launched an operation. On Sunday (10 August) afternoon, three suspects were arrested from the Patabhog Ferry Ghat underpass area in Srinagar. Police recovered the sedative-laced biscuits and the wireless set from them.
Based on their confessions, police arrested three more suspects from Munshiganj and nearby areas, as well as a garage owner from Keraniganj. Two stolen easy-bikes and two chassis were recovered from there. Later, police recovered four more stolen easy-bikes from a garage in Keraniganj.
The arrested individuals are: Rubel alias Abdullah (32), Md. Jamal Hossain (40), Imran Hossain alias Mofazzal (45), Md. Hridoy Sheikh (25), Palash Pathan (35), Md. Bidhan (47), and Md. Sumon (38).
The SP stated that the arrested individuals have multiple prior cases of murder, robbery, and hijacking in different police stations across the country. Regular operations will continue against this gang.
