Today, March 29, is the 46th death anniversary of Principal Ibrahim Khan, the renowned educationist, writer and social reformer of the subcontinent.

He was born on 01 September 1894 in the village of Biramdi (now Shahbaznagar) under Bhuyapur Upazila of Tangail District.

Passed Honors and MA in English Language and Literature from Calcutta University in 1919 and BL degree in Law in 1923. Kartia Sadat College was established in 1926 with the financial patronage of Zamindar Wazed Ali Khan Panni (Chan Miah) and Ibrahim Khan in Kartia and he served as the founding principal for 22 consecutive years.

Sadat College was the first college established by Muslims in undivided Bengal and Assam and Ibrahim Khan was the first Muslim Principal. At that time Kartia Sadat College was known as Aligarh of Bengal. He passed away on March 29, 1978.

After the partition of the country, at the invitation of the government, he was the founding chairman of the East Pakistan Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education from 1947 to 1953, one of the founders and founders of Bangla Academy, the founding secretary of Mirpur Government Bangla College and in 1948 he established Bhuyapur College (now Ibrahim Khan Government College).

Member of Senate of Dhaka University and University of Calcutta, President of Provincial Teachers' Association, Member of Provincial Legislative Assembly of Bengal, Member of Pakistan Constituent Assembly and National Assembly in 1962 elections. He was the founding president and one of the directors of Bangladesh Krishi Bank. He was the first to introduce a bill in Parliament for the distribution of credit among farmers.

In 1948, he established the Tangail Mahfil (now Tangail District Association) in Dhaka and served as the founding president. Donated land for the construction of Bhuyapur Pilot High School for Boys, Girls' School, Bhuyapur Aliya and Hafezia Madrasa, Kakali High School and College in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Eye Hospital, Surya Tarun. Established numerous educational and social institutions including club advisory.

In 1977, the Government of Bangladesh awarded him 'Ekushe Padak'. National felicitation by Bangla Academy in 1975, mass felicitation from Kaykobad Sahitya Majlish in 1977, Bangla Academy Award in 1963, special felicitation by East Bengal Sahitya Sangsad in 1944 and posthumous 'Best Teacher' award by National Celebration Committee on 'World Teachers' Day' in 2015. is done

During the great liberation war of 1971, he rejected the official title 'Tamghaye Quaid-e-Azam' through a statement in the newspaper. Ibrahim Khan received the title of Bahadur in 1938, a title he did not accept in the subjugated country and renounced it in 1943. In the recently published 'Unfinished Autobiography of Bangabandhu', Bangabandhu gratefully remembered Principal Ibrahim Khan.

Some of the notable books written by Principal Ibrahim Khan are, Batayan, Istanbul Traveler's Letter, Man, Farewell to the Bird, In the Land of the Prophet (currently a school textbook in Bangladesh), Kafela, Nasr Peyada, Bou Begum, Lipi Dialogue, Kamal Pasha, Anwar Pasha, Paying off the Debt, Alu Bokhara. , Fazlul Haque in the story, Islam Sopan, Islamer Mormakatha, Khaleda Samar Smriti, Shahnama, Galpa Dadur Asr, Chhoter Miladunnabi, A peep into Rebel Poet, To my students, Anecdotes from Islam, Gleanings in golden fields. Among them, Anecdotes from Islam is a school text in Indonesia and has been translated into Malayalam and Indonesian.

Today at his birthplace Bhuyapur, Tangail, 'Ibrahim Khan Government College Mosque, Quran Khatam, Doa Mahfil organized. On this day, prayers and forgiveness are sought for the departed soul of the great Rabbul Alamin by remembering him.
