In Singair of Manikganj, during the sale of agricultural land in the dark of night, two people were fined Tk 5 lakh and 4 other people involved were sentenced to two months imprisonment without labour.

Upazila Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md. Abdul Qayyum Khan conducted raids on Palpara Kaliganga River in Islampur Mauza of Chandahar Union, Char Moolvarg Chak Palpara Dhaleshwari River of the same union and Char Jamalpur area of Baira Union.

Murad Hossain (50) son of deceased Mahiuddin Madbar of Islampur village of Chandahar union of upazila and Sirajul Islam (40) son of Abdul Karim of Char Moolbarg village paid a fine of Tk 5 lakh.

Apart from this, Asiful Islam (25) son of Abbas Ali of Char Jamalpur village of Bayra Union, Sohag Hossain (24) son of Raju Mia, Hriday Hossain (22) son of Anwar Hossain and Sajib (20) son of Magar Ali of Char Azimpur village of Singair Sadar Union. Sentenced to month's unpaid imprisonment.

According to upazila administration sources, soil traders of Chandahar and Baira Char Jamal area of upazila were cutting soil illegally and selling it to various brick kilns. When the matter came to the attention of the administration, the mobile court conducted an operation on Wednesday night and after finding out the truth of the incident, arrested the accused and sentenced them to fine and imprisonment. Chandahar Union Sub-Assistant Land Officer Abdus Chalam and Thana Police participated in the operation.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Palash Kumar Basu confirmed the matter and said that according to section 1 of the Balu Mahalo Soil Management Act 2010 (15) two people have been fined and 4 people have been sentenced to 2 months without labor. He also said that this campaign will continue.
