3rd Coastal Water Confce in January next

A decision has been taken to organise the third coastal water conference in Khulna next January.

This decision was taken in a meeting held at the Water Aid office in Banani of the capital on Tuesday. Government, non-governmental and international organizations with the representatives of 19 coastal districts will participate in the two-day conference. The conference will decide what to do to solve the water crisis in the coastal region.

Talukdar Abdul Khalek, Chairman of the Conference Preparation Committee and Mayor of Khulna City Corporation, gave a virtual speech in the meeting held under the chairmanship of Hasin Jahan, head of Water Aid Bangladesh.

Ali Akbon Tipu, Panel Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Member, Shamim Arefin, Secretary of Conference Preparation Committee and Executive Director of AOSED, Nikhil Chandra Bhadra of Sundarbans and Coast Protection Movement and SM Shahidullah of SGO Forum participated in the discussion.

In the meeting, in addition to the implementation of the water policy formulated by the current government, the formulation of the water resources usage policy, considering water as a basic element rather than just a resource, ensuring the ownership and rights of the people over water by the state, conserving drinking water by constructing reservoirs on domain, eliminating man-made flooding, there is a call for creating green belts along the Sundarbans and removing waterlogging.
