268 flowing rivers identified in Rangpur Division

Some 268 small and big rivers have been found in 8 districts of Rangpur Division. Of these, 18 inter-border rivers have been officially identified.

River researchers Heritage and Riverine People Club have found 268 flowing rivers in 8 districts of Rangpur division. The list of these 268 rivers was handed over to Rangpur Additional Divisional Commissioner Abu Zafar on March 31 by the officials of River Research Heritage and Riverine People Club.

River researcher Heritage Rajshahi president Mahbub Siddiqui and Rangpur Begum Rokeya University teacher and Riverine People Club Director Professor Dr. Tuhin Wadud are said to have played a leading role in making the list of 268 rivers of Rangpur division.

The list shows that Kurigram district of Rangpur division has the highest number of rivers. 66 rivers have been found in this district. Next is Panchagarh, there are 46 rivers flowing in this district. Among other districts, 34 rivers in Rangpur, 33 in Nilphamari, 32 in Dinajpur, 21 in Thakurgaon, 20 in Lalmonirhat and 16 in Gaibandha district have been mentioned in the list.

Among them, the most 66 rivers in Kurigram district are Dharla, Brahmaputra, Dudh Kumar, Phul Kumar, Neel Kumar, Kaldora, Kalo, Gangadhar, Girai, Chandijan, Jinjiram, Tepri, Dikdari, Dharani, Neel Kamal. , Buri Teesta, Sankosh, Sonabhari, Manneya, Sealdah, Kapna Kanchana, Sarisuri, Balajan, Bansjani, Jamdara, Gidari, Chakli, Shanbandha, Shandia, Dhondra, Arjun's Dara, Khalisha Kuri, Nageswar, Payra Danga, Godhar, Thuthapaikar, Chakir Pashar , Koteshwar, Gharial Danga, Panchgachi Rhyme, Small Rich, Big Rich, Bhagirathi, Kotal Danga, Halhalia, Halhali, Hariyar Dara, Jal Chhera, Kaljani, Boal Mari, Thanband, Baniyadah, Antai, Chandimari, Nagdah, Baromasi, Mahish Kuri, Nawjal, Howrah, Ichamati, Shaljhore, Darer Nala, Yamuna, Gangaram, Sonaram, Neelkanth, Bamana, Gadadhar and Torsa are among them.

After this, among the 46 rivers flowing in Panchagarh district are Karatoa, Alai Kumari, Aloa, Kurma, Gobra, Ghoramara, Chawai, Dahuk, Talma, Tirnai, Nagar, Panga, Pathraj, Pam Petki, Berang, Borka, Bhulli, Versa, Yamuna, Chilka, Dari, Bahu, Madra Teesta, Ranchandi, Singiya, Haturi, Saw, Burail, Karun, Kalidah, Rangapani, Paikani, Teesta Bhanga, Bahita, Shalmara, Baghmara, Kathgiri, Huari, Khakharia, Chatnai, Sui, Bhata, Jora Pani, Chauli and Hai Hari are among them.

After this, there are 34 rivers flowing in Rangpur district. Among these are Teesta, Yamuneshwari, Ghaghat, Khoksa Ghaghat, Akhira, Alaikudi, Alai Kumari, Kathgara, Chaitrakol, Madra, Bullai, Khand-Bhanj, Burail, Bilaichandi, Morcha, Manas, Shalmara, Shyamasundari, Mashankunda, Malimari, Velua, Uchamati, Faringa, Ghirnai, Shan, Naleya, Mara Dhaijan, Khatakhtia, Sonamati, Raswanmati, Mara Teesta, Baishardara, Domjana, Kafrikhal and Dhum rivers.

Then the location of 33 rivers flowing in Nilphamari district. These include Ichamati, Atrai, Kakira, Kaktara, Kanchan, Kala, Kalyani, Garveshwari, Ghakshira, Gabura, Ghaghra, Bansdah, Chirnai, Chhota Yamuna, Dhepa, Nan, Tulshi Ganga, Tullai, Narta, Nalshila, Belan, Pathar Ghata, Bhavki. , Velamati, Myla, Tinai, Shashua, Bhulli, Tanguar, Rangaon, Bijra and Sonarband are among them.

Then the location of 21 rivers flowing in Thakugaon district. These include Tangon, Aman Damon, Kulik, Kahalai, Garh Gariya, Chhota Dhepa, Chhota Senua, Tarra, Tiranai, Nona, Purnabhava, Mhra Tangon, Basia, Lachi, Shuk, Senua, Ahana, Charaban, Bhakti, Ramdara, Puthiya and Nahana.

One of the locations of 20 flowing rivers have been found in Lalmonirhat district. Among these are Teesta, Dharla, Khutamara, Khapra, Khana, Gidari, Chenabola, Trimohani, Kanibari, Bhateswari, Sati, Sankoa, Sangli, Satanoa, Saniajan, Chatra and Ratnai rivers.

Gaibandha district has the lowest number of 16 rivers. The rivers flowing in this district include Teesta, Brahmaputra, Ghaghat, Katakhali, Alai, Gangnai, Manas, Banjani, Bhimati, Mara Manas, Langa, Sarai, Kalapani, Matsa, Maruadah, Holhali, Ichamati and Mara rivers.

Meanwhile, river researcher Mahbub Siddiqui and Dr. Tuhin Wadud said that 268 rivers have been found in Rangpur division in the information obtained from their field survey in 8 districts including Kurigram. This number is not final.

The number of rivers may be more than this. Tarar said that to prepare the list, the individuals and organizations who work with the rivers of every district have cooperated in this work.

Mahbub Siddiqui called for the publication of the complete list of rivers and streams of Rangpur division, subject to the number of rivers found and research, said, "It is the need of the hour to take a complete list of rivers and rivers and conserve them." Wadud said, 'The list of inter-border rivers in Rangpur division is not correct.

Officially, 18 inter-border rivers are mentioned, but in reality, this number will be more than 50. This list of rivers are national rivers.
