Dhaka University Mathematics Department, Bangladesh Mathematics Association and AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation jointly organized the final phase of the '14th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad' and the 5th International Mathematics Day celebration program was held on Friday at AF Mujibur Rahman Mathematics Building of the University.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal was present as the chief guest and inaugurated the day-long Olympiad. Later, a colorful rally was taken out from Ganith Bhavan to the campus under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor.

Chairman of Mathematics Department and President of Bangladesh Mathematics Association Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam presided over the opening ceremony as a special guest. Md. Abdus Chamad, convener of the National Graduate Mathematics Olympiad Committee Professor Shapla Shirin and Bangladesh Mathematics Association Secretary Professor Dr. Mohammad Babul Hasan.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal said that mathematics is involved in all aspects of life. Mathematics is an essential subject in higher education in various subjects apart from science. If you are good at mathematics, you can do well in all branches of science.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed the hope that this Olympiad will play an effective role in overcoming the fear of mathematics among students, increasing interest in mathematics, new innovations and gaining reputation in the international arena through the practice of mathematics.

It should be noted that in this olympiad, the winners of the graduation class participated in the department level.
