12 people injured in attack by auto-rickshaw drivers in N’ganj

Twelve people including some officials of Narayanganj City Corporation were injured in an attack by the unauthorised auto-rickshaw drivers at City Corporation Building in Narayanganj on Monday.
Witnesses said the drivers of unauthorized auto-rickshaws staged demonstration in front of the City Corporation Building on Monday protesting the move of the city corporation to stop plying of unauthorised auto-rickshaw in the city to reduce traffic jams.
At one stage, they entered the building and carried out an attack on some officials and student representatives using brick chips and sharp weapons, leaving 12 people injured.
They also confined the staff of the city corporation inside the building for nearly one and half an hours, creating a tense situation among local people.
Chief Executive Officer of The City Corporation Mohammad Zakir Hossain, said they carried out the attack on the city corporation staff and students representatives, who were tasked to reduce traffic jam, without any provocation.
He also condemned the attack on employees and students.
