World Population Day was celebrated in Manikganj and Mahadevpur Union was selected as the best union in the district. A discussion meeting was held on Thursday afternoon in the conference room of the District Commissioner's office on the theme of '800 Crore Earth: Ensuring the opportunities, choices and rights of all and building a vibrant future'. Later, the district administration and family planning department took out a rally and toured the city.

Since 1990, World Population Day has been observed every year on July 11, but this time due to Eid-ul-Azha, the government decided to observe this day on July 21.

World Population Day aims to raise public awareness on various issues related to population such as family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.

District Family Planning Deputy Director Md Qutub Uddin Chowdhury spoke as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Latif.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanwarul Haque, newly retired DD Golam Nabi of Family Planning Department, Dr. Md. Nasim Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Director of Animal Resources Department, Dr. Maqsuda Khanam, Elisa Ashraf, journalist Md. Shahanur Islam etc. spoke at the event.

Certificates are awarded to field workers-officers, organizations and individuals for important contributions in various fields including family planning and health care, developmental activities, human services. Mahadevpur Union of Shibaloy Upazila was selected as the best union council in the district and Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Latif gave the award to the chairman of the said union Md Shahjahan.

Mahadevpur Union Chairman Md. Shahjahan was elected in the last 5 months for taking various steps including birth-death certificate, Warishan certificate, civil certificate, stop taking extra money for collecting various certificates, stop harassing the citizens, increase the quality of service, adopt simple procedures and take various steps. has been His Union Parishad was recognized as the best Union Parishad in the district for working with integrity.

Besides, On the occasion of World Population Day, Shivalay upazila administration organized a rally, discussion meeting and certificate distribution program on Thursday. UNO Md. Zahidur Rahman presided. AM Naimur Rahman MP was the chief guest. Upazila Chairman Rezaur Rahman Khan, Vice Chairman Miraj Hossain Lalon, Runa Akhtar, Family Planning Officer Mridul Kumar Acharya, A-League leader MA Quddus BA, Journalist Babul Akhtar Manjur and others spoke as special guests.

It is reported that Teota UP FWV Brinda Rani Majumdar is the best candidate in Manikganj district for contributing to population control in the upazila.
