A discussion meeting of Sylhet District Cooperative Union Limited was held on Wednesday (April 18) afternoon at Sylhet Divisional Cooperative Office in the Sylhet city.

President of Sylhet District Co-operative Union Limited Susendra Chandra Khokon Presided over and general secretary Niaz Md.Azizul Karim conducted the meeting. Ashish Kumar Barua, joint registrar of Sylhet divisional cooperative office, spoke as the chief guest in the exchange meeting.

Sadar Upazila Cooperative Officer Monir Hussain spoke as a special guest. Vice President of Sylhet District Cooperative Union Limited Shaheen Rana, treasurer. Abdullah, member. Saleh Ahmad, Yahya Ahmad, Moin Uddin, Golzar Hossain Jaglu, Chan Moni Bishas, Md. Jasim Uddin, Hasan Mahmud Ripon also spoke the meeting.

At the end of the exchange meeting, Ashish Kumar Barua, joint registrar at the Sylhet Divisional Cooperative Office, handed over the copy of Sylhet District Cooperative Union Limited's registration to all the officials including the president and general secretary of the union.

In the speech of the chief guest, Ashish Kumar Barua, joint registrar of Sylhet divisional cooperative office, said that it is very important to ensure the marketing of the produced products and getting the fair price of the products along with investment in agriculture and other productive sectors to make the cooperative movement sustainable.

Transparency and accountability must also be ensured in every aspect of cooperative institutions. He said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to build a self-reliant economy through village cooperatives. Bangabandhu dreamed of the overall development of the country by creating the country's production system on the basis of cooperatives and achieving self-reliance of the common people. In that light, his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working tirelessly to increase the efficiency and performance of the cooperatives by providing intensive vocational training, loan facilities on easy terms, technical and other facilities according to the local needs.

He urged all the concerned including the leaders of Sylhet District Cooperative Union Limited to work to turn the economic philosophy 'cooperative' Shakti into a mass oriented cooperative movement.
