
UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam appointed Member of Press Council

Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Secretary of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, has been nominated as a member of the 21st Council of the Bangladesh Press Council.
According to Section 4(3)(d) of the Press Council Act, 1974, he has been nominated as the UGC representative for the 21st Council.
He will serve as a member of the Bangladesh Press Council for the next 2 years.
Expressing his sincere thanks to the UGC authorities and all concerned for nominating him as a member of the Press Council, he hoped to make significant contributions in adopting and implementing various decisions taken by the Bangladesh Press Council for the development of journalism in the country.
It is to be noted that Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam served in various important positions including Joint Secretary and Director of the Commission.
He obtained his Master’s, MPhil, and PhD degrees from the Department of English at the University of Dhaka.
In addition, he obtained a diploma degree in ELT from a university in the United Kingdom.
He has authored 3 published books. A significant number of his articles have already been published in renowned journals and daily newspapers.
He received advanced training under MTCP (Malaysia), NAFIC (Netherlands), SIDA (Sweden), SCP (Singapore), and SDC fellowships.
