Transforming Chattogram thru' Tourism: Mayor’s initiative for employment, revenue growth

Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has initiated plans to leverage the city’s tourism and economic potential to drive employment and increase revenue.
During a meeting at the Tiger Pass office with members of the local government committee, he outlined his vision for developing the tourism sector and enhancing urban infrastructure.
Dr. Shahadat emphasized that tourism could become a key sector for Chattogram by capitalizing on its natural beauty to generate foreign revenue and create employment opportunities. He underscored the necessity of improving Chattogram's infrastructure to keep the national economy active and ensure job creation.
The mayor highlighted the need for a city government in Chattogram, stating it would help coordinate services among different agencies. He has engaged in discussions with the central government regarding this matter.
As part of his cleanliness initiatives, Dr. Shahadat plans to meet with business representatives to ensure waste bins are placed along roadsides, aiming to reduce litter. He also stressed the importance of reducing polythene use and taking steps to alleviate waterlogging.
Calling for vacant land allocations to set up dedicated dumping stations, Dr. Shahadat indicated that stricter law enforcement would be necessary to maintain cleanliness. He also discussed evaluating the revenue generation from Biplob Udyan and other properties to increase city corporation funds.
