Traffic stopped on Bayezid-Fouzdarhat link road due to landslides
Chittagong Bureau
Due to the low pressure created in the Bay of Bengal, rainfall continues in the surrounding areas including Chittagong. As a result of landslides, the Bayezid-Foujdarhat link road of Chittagong has been closed. Such a situation arose on Saturday morning.
Earlier, the incident took place near bridge number 6 between 3 am and 4 am. However, it is reported that no one was injured. The matter was confirmed by Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Assistant Engineer and Bayezid-Foujdarhat Link Road Project Director Asad Bin Anwar.
He said that a large part of the soil from the hill beside the road collapsed on the lane leading to Faujdarhat. As a result of which the traffic stopped. No one was injured due to the movement of vehicles. Vehicular movement is stopped on the affected part of the road.
The district administration is making miking requests to the people living in the hills in the city to evacuate due to the fear of landslides. The link road has been constructed by the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA). Ignoring the objections of the environmentalists, the road that was built by cutting steep hills almost every monsoon has landslides.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rainfall has continued in Chittagong for the last two days due to the effect of monsoonal depression created in the Bay of Bengal. After overnight rain on Friday (September 13), it continued intermittently till Friday afternoon.
The officials of the Chief Meteorological Office of Chittagong Patanga said that 84 mm of rainfall has been recorded in Chittagong in the last 24 hours till three o'clock on Saturday afternoon. Due to the continuous rain, the district administration staff requested the residents to evacuate by miking on various hills in Chittagong city from Saturday morning.
