Toxic septic tank: 2 worker dead in Khulna, 1 in hospital

Two workers died and another got injured after inhaling toxic gases in a septic tank at an under-construction building in Khulna’s Khalishpur area on Saturday afternoon, said police.
The deceased were identified as Nazir, 28, and Saddam, 30. Details about them and the injured could not be known immediately.
Monirul Gias, officer-in-charge of Khalishpur Police Station, said there works including the duo went into the septic tank to clean it at the under-construction building in Shishu Park area on the road No 19 around 4:30pm.
Getting no response from them for a long time, co-workers informed the local fire service.
A team of fire service personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies and rescued another from the tank, he said, adding that the injured is receiving treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) and the bodies were also kept there for autopsies.
An investigation is underway and legal steps will be taken in this regard later, added the OC.
