The biennial election 2025 of Thakurgaon Reporters Unity, the apex organization of journalists in Thakurgaon district, was held on Wednesday.

Abdul Latif Litu, Thakurgaon correspondent of Bangladesh Pratidin and News 24, was elected as President in the election, and Arifuzzaman Arif, Thakurgaon correspondent of Ajker Business Bangladesh, was elected as the general secretary.

The organization's Chief Election Commissioner, Adv Abdur Rahman Jilani, announced the new committee at the Upazila Muktijoddha Complex in front of Thakurgaon Shilpakala.

Since there were no rival candidates in the biennial election of the organization, the candidates for 13 posts, including the president and general secretary, were declared elected unopposed and given responsibility for the next 2 years.

The other elected candidates are Bijoy TV representative Mamunur Rashid Mintu for the post of vice-president, Dainik Bangla Alo Barta Editor Sohel Tanvir for the post of associate general secretary, Mujibur Rahman for the post of organizational secretary, Anwar Hossain for the post of office secretary, Abdul Quader Jilani for the post of treasurer, Jane Alam for the post of publicity and information secretary, Jasimuddin Iti for the post of activity and cultural secretary, NM Nurul Islam, Saidur Rahman, Abdus Samad and Rabiul Ehsan Ripon for the post of executive members.

In the said election, Ekushey Television and Janakantha's Thakurgaon representative S. M. Jasim Uddin was the presiding officer, and Dainik Alokot Sakal newspaper's district representative Munsur Ali was the assistant presiding officer.

The newly- elected president of the committee, Abdul Latif Litu, said that Thakurgaon Reporters Unity (TRU) is an independent organization of media workers. I served as the general secretary of the organization at its inception.

Then I was elected as the president in the 2022 election. This time, with the love of all the voters, I have been given the responsibility of the same position again for the next two years. I will always try to be by the side of not only the members of the organization but also all the journalists of the district, in their joys and sorrows.
