Brigidiar General Dr M. Sakhawat Hossain, (Retd.), Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping, Labour and Employment, visited the Tamabil Land Port in Jaflong, Gowainghat Upazila and called on stakeholders including importers and traders to come forward to increase government revenue and keep business and trade normal.

He said that the interim government is making efforts to increase government revenue and keep business and trade normal for the development of the country. He called on all stakeholders including importers and traders to come forward to maintain infrastructural development and a business-friendly environment at all land ports in Sylhet. He said that special measures have been taken for infrastructural development at Tamabil Land Port. Several infrastructure construction works will be implemented at Tamabil Land Port in the current year. He assured a smooth solution by identifying all the problems of the importers in stages.

On Wednesday afternoon, after visiting the Tamabil land port, he said these things at a meeting with local importers, partners and local journalists to resolve the impasse regarding the import of Indian stone and coal. After detailed discussions in the meeting, the Indian stone-laden truck entered Bangladesh. As a result, after a long 22-day closure, the import activities of Indian stone and coal at the Tamabil land port have become normal. He stayed at the land port and observed the weighing activities of the trucks carrying Indian stone.

During the inspection of the land port, Maritime Transport Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain visited the Tamabil historical slaughterhouse in memory of the martyrs killed in the great liberation war of 1971 and paid tribute.

Present at the event were Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman (Additional Secretary) Mohammad Manzarul Mannan, Gowainghat Upazila Executive Officer Touhidul Islam, Sylhet 48 BGB Commander Lt. Col. Hafizur Rahman, Gowainghat Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Saidul Islam, Officer (In-Charge) Sarkar Md. Tofail, Tamabil Customs Assistant Commissioner Gaurab Mahajan, Tamabil Land Port Authority Assistant Director Mostafizur Rahman, and Jaintapur Press Club President Nurul Islam.

In addition, leaders of the Sylhet Coal Importers Association, Atiqur Rahman, Emdad Hossain, businessmen of the Tamabil Stone Importers Group, Mr. Henry Lamin, Rafiqul Islam Shahparan, Chairman of Jaintapur Union Parishad Fakhrul Islam, businessmen Ilias Uddin Lipu, Abdul Mannan, Mohammad Kabir Uddin, Omar Faruk, District Jubo Dal leader Abul Hasim, Ismail Hossain, businessmen of the Sylhet Coal Importers Association and Tamabil Stone Importers Group at various levels and administration officials were present at the meeting.
