Satkhira markets now full of mangoes

Hundreds of vanloads of ripe mangoes are coming from the village in Sultanpur Barobazar of Satkhira city. These mangoes are brought from the garden trees and kept in storage. Buyers are buying from there. These mangoes are being sent to different districts including the capital Dhaka outside the district.

Mango harvest has started from last May 9. Mango planting will continue till the month of June. Govindbhog, Gopalbhog, Golapkhas, Sarishakhas varieties of mangoes have already appeared in the market. Buyers from different districts including Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong are coming to buy these mangoes which are incomparable in taste and smell. These buyers are again taking online orders and sending them to ordinary retail buyers through courier services.

The mango market has been gathering since dawn. On Friday (May 17) morning, rows of vans were seen coming from rural areas. As far as the eye can see, only mango vans. There is no place to hold sesame seeds in the mango market. The crowd of buyers is also noticeable. Sultanpur Barobazar is full of mangoes. Wherever you can look, there are mangoes and mangoes!

Civic leader Principal Ashek-e-Elahi said, due to weather, climate and geographical location, the mangoes of Satkhira come to the market earlier.

Meanwhile, bargaining is going on between buyers and sellers in the mango market. Mango trader Humayun Kabir said, depending on the size and variety, Govindbhog mangoes are being sold at Tk 2,700 to Tk 2,800 and Gopalbhog at Tk 2,500 to Tk 2,600.

However, many say that the price of mangoes varies according to their size and color. Mangoes that are of better size are priced higher.

Meanwhile, many young entrepreneurs are delivering Sweet mangoes of Satkhira to consumers in different districts including Dhaka through courier services. One of them is Apurba Roy. He said, every year we do mango business at this time. We post and market mango prices on social media. Then when the buyer contacts us, we deliver mangoes to their homes. We act only as a medium, thereby earning us some profit. During this time, many outside entrepreneurs including Satkhira stayed here and did mango business online.

Hafizul Islam, who came to buy mangoes, said that Satkhira's mangoes mean brand. The mangoes of Satkhira are sweeter and incomparable in taste than the mangoes of other districts of the country. It can be verified by eating the mango, it is Satkhira mango. Satkhira mangoes are being exported abroad every year beyond the borders of the country. Moreover, the value of this mango is also very high in the capital Dhaka.

Garden owner and mango trader MA Majed of Bhaluka Chandpur village of Sadar Upazila said that he takes mango orders online from different districts of the country and delivers them to the consumer through courier with honesty and devotion. He said, the price of mangoes is different every day. Someday the price will be high, someday it will be low - it cannot be said in advance. But this year the price of mangoes is much higher.

Alamgir Hossain, a mango trader from Rajshahi, said that Satkhira's mangoes ripen earlier, so the demand for mangoes from this district is all over the country. I basically take mango orders online and deliver across the country. Compared to previous years, mangoes have arrived in the market a little late this year. But the demand is huge. Getting huge response online.

According to Satkhira Agricultural Extension Directorate, the target of mango production in Satkhira district has been set at 50 thousand metric tons. Out of this, 1,235 hectares in Sadar Upazila, 658 hectares in Kalaroa, 715 hectares in Tala, 380 hectares in Debhata, 825 hectares in Kaliganj, 145 hectares in Asashuni and 160 hectares in Shyamnagar have been cultivated.

There are 5 thousand 299 mango orchards and 13 thousand 100 mango farmers registered in the district. In total, 4 thousand 118 hectares of mangoes have been cultivated this year.

Agriculturist Saiful Islam, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department, Satkhira, said that mango collection has started in Satkhira from May 9 with some local varieties of mangoes.

May 22 Himsagar, May 29 Nyangra and June 10 Amrapali variety mangoes will be collected successively. It should be remembered that not all the mangoes on the tree ripen at the same time. So he requested not to plant the mangoes before they turn color.
