Rooftop gardening becoming popular in Rangpur city

Rangpur Correspondent

Rooftop gardens are becoming popular in the divisional city of Rangpur to meet the nutritional needs of the growing population.

After becoming the oldest district Rangpur into a divisional city of the country, the population is increasing day by day. Along with that, the housing need is also increasing.

At this, the croplands are reduced and high multi-storied buildings are being built around the city. As a result, Rangpur has become a city made of brick, stone and concrete. It is now rare to find places for people to plant trees.

In view of this, the rooftop garden has become an alternative field for the people of the city to meet the nutritional needs of the hobby garden or their family.

Considering these aspects, roof gardens have become quite popular in Rangpur. Its value is increasing day by day.

Fancy gardeners have developed a variety of fruit, flower and vegetable gardens on the roof of the house. Seasonal fruits, flowers and vegetables of various varieties are adorning these roof gardens throughout the year. Many people are meeting the needs of family vegetables and fruits from these gardens.

According to the sources of Agriculture Extension Department, at least three hundred roof gardens have been developed in Rangpur city. This number is constantly increasing due to the initiative of careful gardeners. As a result, different types of fruit trees and different types of vegetables and flowers are being cultivated on the roof of the house. It is like pure oxygen factory in the midst of endangered nature.

Many tree lovers of Rangpur city have come forward for this. With the help of the Agriculture Extension Department, many people have developed fruit and vegetable gardens on the roof of their houses. Family members are tending the garden in their spare time.

Agriculturalist Obaidur Rahman Mandal, deputy director of Rangpur Agricultural Extension Department, said that even though rooftop gardens are expensive, the gardeners are not stopping.

It is possible to produce safe fruits and vegetables free of pesticides from rooftop gardens. Moreover, many people meet the nutritional needs of their families by growing fruits, vegetables and flowers on the roof of their house out of love for trees. Hobbyists are turning to roof gardens to meet their nutritional needs.
