Sabbir Ibne Siddique, Hatiya (Noakhali)
A protest rally and demonstration were held in Hatiya, the island sub-district of Noakhali, to condemn the brutal armed attack on the central leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Gopalganj at 9:30 pm on Thursday.
The program took place on the main road of the sub-district. The rally began in front of the Island Government College, circled key roads of the municipal town, and concluded with a demonstration at the Upazila Zero Point.
The event was chaired by Haji Maulana Mohammad Abdul Malek and moderated by Yusuf Reza. Speakers included Shamsul Tabriz, former headteacher of A. Gani Girls’ High School, former army officer Md. Sahed, and NCP Hatiya Upazila representative Abir Hossain.
The speakers stated, “Those who established fascism for the past 17 years have been ousted by the mass uprising of students and the public. However, within less than a year, the way Awami League terrorists carried out an armed attack in Gopalganj poses a grave threat to the country’s democracy and politics.”
They further said, “The attack in Gopalganj has once again proven that fascist aggression persists in the country. To counter such terrorist activities, all political forces must unite. We call upon the administration to promptly bring the perpetrators under the law and ensure exemplary punishment.”
The speakers demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers and a strong stance to protect the democratic rights of the country.
