Permanent solution to flooding in monsoon season: Tajul Islam

Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Tajul Islam said, there should be a permanent solution to waterlogging during the monsoon season. All institutions including city corporation should work in coordination.
The minister said these while addressing "Preparation and planning for waterlogging in the rainy season" at the Conference Room of the Ministry at meeting with elite.
Regarding waterlogging in Dhaka city, Tajul Islam said that waterlogging in Dhaka city has reduced to a large extent. Once upon a time when it rained in Shantinagar, Tejgaon area, the water was stuck for more than a week, now that situation has changed Due to heavy rains, the waterlogging in areas including Dhanmondi, lasts up to an hour after the rain stops. Besides, the city corporation has been instructed to clear the areas where waterlogging is still seen.
He said that to solve the waterlogging in Chittagong city, a solution should be found through joint efforts to eliminate waterlogging in Chittagong city. All institutions including City Corporation, WASA, Chittagong Development Authority must work with a common goal Chittagong city's waterlogging can be solved by implementing a long-term master plan rather than a short-term one.
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Local Government Department Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman and senior officials of the local government department were present.
