Ovi acquitted in model Tinni murder case

A Dhaka court today (Jan 14) acquitted former student leader and Jatiya Party lawmaker Golam Faruq Ovi, in his absentia, in the case filed over the killing of model Syeda Tania Mahbub Tinni in 2002.
Judge Mosammat Shahinur Akhter of Dhaka 2nd Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court issued the verdict citing that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against the lone accused.
The court had earlier recorded the testimony of 26 prosecution witnesses, including Tinni's father, Syed Mahbub Karim, who had sought exemplary punishment for the accused.
No family members of the victim were present during today's judgment.
