No scope of loss from govt. fixed aman rate: Ali Imam

Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder has said there is no scope of incurring loss by farmers and millers if they supply paddy and rice at the price fixed by the government during the aman season.

“A high powered government committee has fixed the price of paddy and rice calculating the margin of profit with the production cost,” he said adding that the price would be readjusted against in the next season.

“So there is no scope of suffering any loss,” he said while briefing the media personnel after a views exchange meeting with the Deputy Commissioners and District Food Controllers of Rajshahi division at Sirajganj circuit house today.

Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi Khandkar Azim Ahmed presided over the meeting while Director General (DG) of Food Abdul Khaleque and Rajshahi Divisional Food Controller Mainuddin and DC of Sirajganj Md Nazrul Islam were present.

Expressing his hope to achieve the food procurement target during the current season, the adviser said that food security has been build up through the ongoing procurement drive.

The government will try to keep the food price stable by supplying the procured paddy and rice in different ways including open market sale (OMS) and vulnerable group development (VGD) programme, he added.

Official source said, the government has fixed a target for procuring 92,729 metric tons of rice, 53359 metric tons of paddy and 13,950 metric tons of half-boiled (Atop) rice from eight districts of Rajshahi division this season.

Out of that target, the government has already procured 28,055 metric tons of rice and 206 metric tons of paddy which consisting 30 percent of the target.
