Narayanganj City Corporation working at full capacity to combat dengue : CEO Zakir

Narayanganj Correspondent

At a seminar on "The Role of Environmental and Health Awareness in Dengue Prevention," Zakir Hossain, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Narayanganj City Corporation, stated, "We are working with our maximum capacity to prevent dengue.

From my experience, I can say that there is a significant lack of awareness among us. Although Aedes mosquitoes primarily lay eggs in clean water, we often find locals pressuring workers to spray mosquito repellent in specific areas, such as corners, yards, and windows of their homes, and in some cases, they even become aggressive."

He emphasized that every ward's mosquito control workers face similar challenges. Zakir urged everyone to be vigilant, saying, "If we can keep our homes and surroundings clean and implement dengue awareness effectively, we can achieve 50-60% of the prevention effort. Combining measures like spraying repellents, fogging, and maintaining cleanliness can potentially lead to 100% dengue prevention. However, without public awareness, it will be impossible for the City Corporation or any organization to combat dengue alone."

The seminar, organized by Narayanganj City Corporation in collaboration with Government Tolaram College, was held on Wednesday at the college's Padma Auditorium.

It was presided over by Professor Bimal Chandra Das, Principal of Tolaram College. Key attendees included Vice Principal Professor Md. Shahidul Islam, Dr. Selina Akter, Chair of the Law and Human Rights Department at R. P. Saha University, and Mohammad Moinul Ashraf, General Secretary of the Education Cadre Officers Council at Tolaram College.

During the event, District Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumdar said, "To avoid dengue, using mosquito nets is a must. If I keep my surroundings clean, at least I can ensure my own safety. Everyone needs to take responsibility and stay aware, only then can we tackle dengue."

In his presidential address, Professor Bimal Chandra Das remarked, "With the leadership of the City Corporation, forming monitoring committees throughout Narayanganj would be an excellent initiative. However, ultimately, if we all become conscious and proactive, only then can dengue be prevented."
