Narayanganj District police arrested a mugger named Md. Anik (28) in connection with the murder of college student Md. Wazed Shimanto (20) in the Deobhog area under the jurisdiction of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.

At a press conference held at the office of the District Superintendent of Police on Wednesday (December 18), Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumder shared the information. Police claim that Anik is the prime suspect in this murder case.

On the morning of December 12, around 5:30 AM, miscreants stabbed Wazed Shimanto in front of Ali Ahmad Chunka Library on Bhasha Sainik Momtaz Begum Road in Deobhog. After the attack, the perpetrators fled, stealing his mobile phone and Tk 1,800.

Shimanto was initially rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries on the night of December 14.

According to police, the victim’s father, Haji Md. Alam Parvez, filed a case at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station following the incident. Utilizing modern technology, CCTV footage, and data analysis, police identified and arrested the primary perpetrator, Md. Anik.

At the time of the arrest, police recovered the stolen mobile phone and a switchgear knife used in the crime.

The arrested Anik is the son of Md. Nayan alias Moru Saha of the Gopchar Sukum Potti area. He has eight prior cases related to mugging, robbery attempts, and narcotics, along with two outstanding arrest warrants.

Police stated that operations are ongoing to apprehend others involved in Shimanto’s murder.
