Massive development in PWD : PM inaugurates 9 projects in Dhaka Chattogram, Manikganj

The Prime Minister inaugurated nine projects of Public Works Department ( PWD) in Dhaka, Chittagong and Manikganj on Tuesday through video conference from Ganabhaban.

At the other inauguration venue in front of the newly-constructed building in Azimpur, PWD Chief Engineer Mohammad Shamim Akhter and Chief Architect Mir Mananjur Rahman along with senior officers-engineers were present .

After the inauguration, a special prayer was offered for the welfare of the country and nation.

The detalis of the nine projects are mentioned bleow :

1. Construction project of 288 residential flats for government officials-employees (Directorate of Public Works and Architecture) at Jigatla, Dhaka : This project was implemented from September-17 to June-23. The total cost of the project is Rs.30384.00 lakhs. The project has been implemented to improve the quality of life of government officials working in the Department of Public Works and Department of Architecture by providing housing facilities to them.

Under the project, 48 flats in 1 1500 sq ft 13 storey building, 144 flats in 3 1250 sq ft 13 storey buildings, 2 1000 sq ft 13 storey buildings with 96 flats totaling 288 flats and 1 5000 sq ft 6 storey community building have been constructed. All modern facilities are available in the project including 2 large playgrounds, walking walkways, 1 beautiful reservoir with sitting and walking areas around it, fresh water supply system through its own deep tubewell.

02. Construction of 684 flats for government officers/employees in 9 multi-storied residential buildings on the site of 11 dilapidated buildings in CGS Colony, Agrabad, Chittagong :

This project was implemented from July-18 to June-23. Under the scope of the project, 152 flats in 2 20-story buildings of 650 square feet, 304 flats in 4 20-story buildings of 850 square feet, 228 flats in 3 20-story buildings of 1000 square feet, and a total of 684 flats and 1 community building have been constructed. 75 percent of the project is green space.

03. Multi-storied integrated government office building construction project in Manikganj :

This project was implemented from July-19 to June-23. Total expenditure is Rs.9564.62 lakhs. The project has been implemented with the aim of providing sufficient space for conducting all kinds of official activities in the district. As a result, it became public. 1 10-storey office building has been constructed under the project. The building has a total floor area of 1,93,311.56 square feet and has 42 car parking facilities in the basement of the building.

04. Upward expansion of the architectural building located in Segun Bagicha, Dhaka (upgrading the existing 7-storey building to 10 floors) and modernization of the existing building :

This project was implemented from July-21 to June-23. The total cost is Rs.4269.73 lakhs. The project has been implemented with the aim of ensuring a beautiful working environment for all the officers and employees working in the Department of Architecture.

05. It will be implemented from the government officials inside the Azimpur Government Colony in Dhaka during the period of December-23. The total cost of the project is Rs.192180.57 lakhs. The objective of the project is to improve the quality of work by providing modern housing facilities to government officials. The project comprises 228 flats in 20-storey buildings with 3 1800 sq.ft flats, 608 flats in 8 20-storey buildings with 1500 sq.ft flats and 4 20-storey buildings with 1250 sq.ft flats.

A total of 1140 flats will be constructed in 15 20-storey buildings with 304 flats. Apart from this, other facilities include wide roads, 4 large grounds, 3 aesthetic water bodies and all modern facilities including walkways around it.


06. Dhaka's Mirpur Paikparayebe. The total cost of the project is Tk .108845.60 lakhs. The objective of this project is to provide housing facilities to government officials and employees, to increase the quality of work by ensuring suitable, quality and healthy accommodation.

Under the project, there will be 17,850 flats, 384 flats in 8 1000 square feet 13-storey buildings with a total of 25 13-storey buildings, 1200 community hall, library, gymnasium, day-care center, super mosque and temple.

07. Construction of 398 residential flats (revised 311) in 20 abandoned houses in Gulshan, Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur of Dhaka :

The project will be implemented from July-16 to June-25. The total cost of the project is Rs.35853.04 lakhs. It also aims to build a total of 311 flats including 18 flats of 1800 square feet, 147 flats of 1500 square feet, 132 flats of 1250 square feet and 14 flats of 1000 square feet for government officials.

08. Government residential flats and dormitory buildings will be taken up in abandoned houses in Chittagong city. The total cost of the project is Tk 47660.95 lakhs. The objective of the project is to ensure fair use of government land, increase government revenue, improve service quality by ensuring quality housing for government officials and protect government land from litigation and expropriation. 414 flats in 10 buildings with 1500 sq.ft flats, 1250 sq.ft flats under the project

576 flats including 162 flats in 4 buildings and 64 dormitory rooms (each unit having 250 square feet flat) will be constructed in 1 building. The construction of 160 flats and 64 dormitory rooms has been completed in a total of 4 buildings of the project.

09. Modernization and Upward Expansion Project of Sobhan Bagh Mosque, Dhaka :

This project will be implemented from March-19 to December-23. The total cost of the project is Rs.6089.68 lakhs. Under the project, the traditional Sobhan Bagh Mosque has been reconstructed on 0.35 acres of land in Dhaka, the former 4-storey mosque has been upgraded to 10 floors and 1 temporary mosque with 3 floors has been constructed. The semi-basement of the mosque houses 1 madrasa, Islamic library and the 2nd floor also has a prayer room for women.

It is mentioned that after taking the charge as PWD by Mohammad Shamim Akhter, dynamism and transparency have been brought in the PWD and steps have been taken to bring changes in the Department
