Malaysia deports 45 Bangladeshis

Staff Correspondent

Malaysia’s Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has detained 68 foreign nationals at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for suspicious behaviour, including 45 Bangladeshis who were subsequently deported.

The incident took place on Wednesday.

In a statement, AKPS said the detainees claimed to be tourists but did not proceed towards the immigration counter. Instead, they were seen loitering around food stalls and other areas of the airport, allegedly waiting for someone.

Among the detainees, 16 were Pakistanis, 45 Bangladeshis, and seven Indians. They were taken to the KLIA Immigration Operations Office, where their documents were verified. Authorities then issued them a Notice to Leave (NTL) instead of granting entry into Malaysia.

The agency further said that the highest number of NTLs was recorded within a 24-hour period as of 18 February. Between 1 January and 18 February, KLIA surveillance teams screened 2,654 foreign nationals, of whom 900 were denied entry for not being genuine tourists.
