July mass upsurge trial to be completed before Victory Day next year: Asif Nazrul
Staff Correspondent
Asif Nazrul, adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, has said that the trial proceedings of those responsible for the July-August mass upsurge will be completed before Victory Day next year.
“Completing the trial of mass killing, implementing reforms and conducting elections are the key tasks of the interim government. As a Law Adviser, my main responsibility is to deal with the trial proceedings of the mass killing,” he said.
He made the remarks on Saturday during the first session of the second day of the national dialogue titled "Unity, Reform and Elections," organised by the Forum for Bangladesh Studies, at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium in the capital’s Khamarbari area.
At the beginning of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), there was no justice or investigation officer, but a prosecution team was formed within a week, he said.
“The judiciary cannot be held questionable by rapidly holding the trial process. There will be no negligence in the trial process and it will not be delayed,” he expressed his optimism.
Responding to a query from newsmen, he said he asked the home ministry to know how people like Obaidul Quader fled the country.
“It is the government’s failure not to make him arrest,” said the law adviser.
