To combat the growing crisis of safe drinking water caused by salinity intrusion in coastal areas due to climate change, Jagorani Chakra Foundation has distributed water tanks to 432 families in the first phase of its initiative.
The distribution ceremony was held on Tuesday at 11 AM in the premises of the Moralganj Upazila complex. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Habibullah attended as the chief guest and handed over the water tanks to the beneficiaries.
Also present were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Badruddoza, Project Manager of Jagorani Chakra Foundation Abdul Mannan, Unit Manager Md. Zillur Rahman, along with other representatives of the organization.
This program has been implemented under the Srijon Project (BMZ 6635) to enhance the resilience and adaptive capacity of vulnerable communities in the context of climate change in Bangladesh. The initiative is financially supported by BMZ and NETZ Bangladesh.
Speaking at the event, the chief guest said, “Due to climate change, salinity levels in the coastal region are increasing, leading to a severe shortage of safe drinking water. These water tanks will help families store safe water, which is essential for health protection and improving quality of life.”
Project Manager Abdul Mannan said that the project not only focuses on water supply but also on strengthening community capacity, raising awareness, and developing sustainable solutions to tackle climate change.
Unit Manager Md. Zillur Rahman stated, “Safe water is a fundamental human right. We are working to gradually extend this facility to thousands more families.”
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Jagorani Chakra Foundation and the funding organizations, urging them to continue such support in the future.
