Internet disruption for more than two days

Staff Correspondent

Internet users across the country will experience slow bandwidth for twenty hours in the next two days across the country due to an upgrade of submarine cable in Cox’s Bazar.

The disruption may begin from early Tuesday (2.00am to 12.00pm) and early Wednesday (2.00 am to 12.00pm) due to system upgrades, Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company said in a press release on Sunday.

Internet customers may experience a temporary internet slowdown or internet service interruption during the staid period due to the upgrade process over the country’s first submarine cable, SEA-ME-WE-4. The connected circuits with the second submarine cable, SEA-ME-WE 5, will be connected from the Kuakata end, according to the release.

Earlier, internet and cellular services across the country were disrupted on Thursday following a fire in the Khawaja Tower building in Dhaka's Mohakhali. The affected building housed two data centres that connected several interconnection exchanges (ICX) and the international internet gateway (IIG).
