Husband sentenced to life imprisonment for killing wife in Natore

A court has sentenced husband Sirajul Islam (47) to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 50,000 for strangling his wife to death in Lalpur upazila of Natore.

Judge Md. Sohag Talukder of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-4 delivered the verdict on Wednesday afternoon. The accused was present at the time.

According to the case source, Sirajul Islam of Old Ishwardi Paschimpara village of Lalpur upazila was married to Lata Khatun, daughter of Helal Uddin of Ram Narayanpur of the same upazila. There had been a family feud in their family since their marriage. On April 27, 2020, due to a family feud, husband Sirajul Islam strangled his wife Lata Khatun and left her in the Jokadah Battala area of the same upazila and fled. Later, after learning about the report that Lata's body had been strangled during the autopsy, Lata's father Helal Uddin filed a case with Lalpur police station on December 13, accusing Sirajul Islam. After the case was registered, the police conducted a raid and arrested Sirajul Islam from the Lalpur area and handed him over to the court.

Natore Judge Court APP Adv  Mahmudur Rahman Mamun said,

after hearing the case and taking testimony, Sirajul Islam was found guilty and the court sentenced him to life imprisonment and an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment in default of paying a fine of fifty thousand taka.
