Human chain demanding execution of murderer in Kapasia

Zahidul Islam, an expatriate, was brutally murdered in Kapasia, Gazipur, for protesting extortion.
Locals have formed a human chain demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the incident. More than two hundred men and women participated in the human chain. The entire area was filled with slogans like ‘I want execution of murderers’ and ‘I want trial of extortionists’.
The human chain was organized at 5 pm on Saturday in the Gabtala area of the Kapasia-Hatirdia road of the upazila.
Shipa Akhter, the wife of the deceased, said in a tearful voice, “The terrorists were demanding extortion from the neighbors. My husband was killed because he protested. I want justice for this murder. So that no other woman loses her husband like this.”
Local resident Hamida Begum said, “When Nurul Huda’s son Moinul demanded extortion during the construction of a new house in my house, I informed Zahidul. He stopped him. Then Moinul and his men hacked him to death.”
The deceased’s father-in-law, Alauddin of Kandi village in Braj, said, “Jahidul married my daughter eight years ago. They have a daughter. He was working in Saudi Arabia and returned to the country a few years ago to take care of his family and children. As far as I know, he was a good person. His death in this way is unacceptable.”
The deceased’s brother, Advocate Alamgir Hossain, said, “Two of the neighbors’ nieces were working on the roof of the house. At that time, when local terrorists demanded extortion, my brother protested. The terrorists got angry and killed him.”
The deceased's neighbor Kamal Hossain (40) and cousin Ain Uddin (50) said, "Jahidul was a decent man. He had a good relationship with everyone in the area. His younger daughter sits and cries next to her father's grave every day. She herself wants justice for her father's killers. We want justice for this murder."
It is worth noting that the murder took place at around 11:30 pm on Friday, July 4, in Aral Madhyapara village of Sanmania Union in Kapasia Upazila. The deceased, Jahidul Islam (28), is the son of the late Haris Uddin of Sanmania Barkanda village. His mother, Rokeya Begum, is a UP member of wards 7, 8 and 9.
Eyewitnesses said that on the night of the incident, 10-12 miscreants called him while he was sitting in a grocery shop near his house and seriously injured him by slashing him in various parts of his head and body with country-made weapons. Later, locals rescued him and took him first to Kapasia Upazila Health Complex and from there to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, where he died during treatment.
Local residents have demanded the immediate arrest of the murderers and exemplary punishment.
