Golden paddy swinging across field : Target exceeded, farmers happy in Gafargaon

Arshad Ahmed Asad, Gafargaon (Mymensingh)

By waving leaves on the side of the road, it is always a sign, my paddy field is green with honey. The birds are sleeping in the fields in flocks and flocks. Sometimes its rice is ripe, somewhere it is not ripe, the area of the green sari is like a patch.

These lines of the rural poet Jasim Uddin's poem 'Dhan Khet' are well-known forms of Bengal. Now, due to early varieties of rice in rural Bengal, farmers have become excited about golden rice since the beginning of Baisakh.

Paddy harvesting has started in most areas of Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh since the beginning of Baisakh. The smell of ripe rice is now in the air of Haor. Farmers are busy cutting and threshing Boro paddy from morning to evening. At the end of threshing, to collect new paddy in round. Paddy harvesting and threshing will start everywhere in the next one week.

The golden smile of golden ripe rice is now in the harvest field. At this time in the middle of Baisakh, the golden rice fields are shining in the bright sun. Due to favorable weather and environment, paddy yield has been good this year. The farmer's heart is filled with this.

Among the 13 upazilas of Mymensingh, Gafargaon is one of the top few upazilas in terms of paddy production.

By visiting various fields of Gafargaon upazila and talking to the farmers, bumper yield images of Boro rice were obtained. According to the office of Upazila Agriculture Officer, agriculturist Rakib Al Rana, the target of Boro paddy cultivation in 1 municipality and 15 unions of the upazila in the current season was 21 thousand hectares. But the target was exceeded. Many lands have already been harvested. The paddies of the rest of the land are swaying when ripe.

The production of paddy has also been good this year. The agriculture department said that this benefit in production was due to the increase in farmers' efficiency in using balanced fertilizers in the paddy without insect attack. The same goes for farmers. Recently visited various fields and saw good crops. As far as the eye can see, Boro Paddy is held by a wave of forgotten golden color. Many have started harvesting paddy in the joy of the festival.

Farmers Anich Uddin (55), Sujan Mia (29), Enamul Haque (43) and Farooq Mia (46) of Bagbari village of Longair Union, who came to harvest paddy in the field, said that the yield of paddy this time is more than last time. Paddy is now being sold for 950 to 960 per maund in the market. But if the price of paddy falls further than this, losses will be incurred. If the price increases, the farmers will get a lot of profit. But the farmers said that there is a labor shortage in the area. As a result, even if the paddy is ripe, it is not possible to harvest the paddy of many lands.

Abdul Hai, a farmer of Charipara village, said that he has cultivated Boro rice on about 21 acres of land this time. The yield has also been bumper. Farmer Enamul Islam of Chaishani Rasulpur village, Lutfar Rahman of Kadam Rasulpur village and Mahbubul Alam of Rasulpur village said that the yield of paddy has been very good this time. However, due to excessive heat, they have to struggle to bring rice home.

Gafargaon Upazila Agriculture Officer Rakib Al Rana said that if farmers are aware of boro paddy fields, it is possible to get more yield at lower cost. Due to the favorable weather conditions, Boro rice yield has been good this year. As the yield is good, the dreams of the farmers of numerous square farmers of the upazila will be fulfilled. The hard-earned golden harvest will bring a smile to your face.
