A three-day volunteer training on firefighting, search, rescue and first aid has been inaugurated at Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mobashwer Hasan inaugurated the training on Tuesday morning. Deputy Director of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Kazi Najmuzzaman presided over the inauguration ceremony and Additional Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam was present among others. Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defense organized this training.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country due to its geographical location. Natural calamities like cyclones, floods, river floods and droughts are regular occurrences for Bangladesh.

As a result of climate change, the magnitude and severity of these natural disasters are continuously increasing. To combat the adverse effects of climate change, along with stopping environmental pollution, large-scale planting of trees is required.

Highlighting the importance of fire service in various disasters of the country, he said that it is a service-oriented organization. Members of the fire service carry out firefighting and various rescue operations at the risk of life.

The Deputy Commissioner laid emphasis on increasing the public awareness campaign of the fire service. He urged the trainees to stand by the people during calamities and crises.

40 male and female volunteers participated in this training. Certificates and ID cards will be distributed to the volunteers after the training. Trained volunteers will act as fire service and civil defense aides in various accidents and disasters.
