Extra police deployed for New Year celebration: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjad Ali has announced the deployment of additional 3,000 police personnel in the capital to ensure safety during the Thirty-First Night and English New Year celebrations.
He told media while speaking at a press briefing at the DMP Media Center on Tuesday (Dec 31) morning.
The commissioner said that the regular deployment includes at least two patrol teams from each outpost and four to five teams from each police station. The additional deployment is aimed at maintaining order during the celebrations, which are expected to draw large crowds.
Key areas such as Dhaka University, Gulshan, 300 Feet Road, and Uttara Diabari will have sharp security. Environmental department magistrates will also be on duty, supported by police, to enforce rules through mobile courts if necessary, he said.
The commissioner reassured the public that there are no specific threats for the night and emphasized the importance of citizen cooperation in reducing noise pollution. “This is a shared responsibility, and we need everyone’s support,” he said.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Tapan Kumar Biswas, also attended the briefing.
