Ex-social welfare secy placed on remand after arrest at Dhaka airport

A Dhaka court on Saturday placed Ismali Hossain, a former secretary of social welfare ministry, on a two-day remand.
The former government official was arrested in the early hours Saturday from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as he was trying to travel to the USA, said Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ershad Ahmed.
Ismail was forced into retirement on 22 October, for his alleged support for Awami League government’s corrupt and oppressive acts.
The police are now checking if there are any pending cases or allegations against him.
