Efficient leadership : Keru transformed under new management
Staff Correspondent
Keru & Company, the country’s only state-owned liquor producer, has undergone a transformation under new management. Efficient leadership, innovative planning, and strict monitoring have curbed theft and disorder within the facility.
To prevent theft, every individual entering the liquor production plant is now subject to thorough checks at the factory gate. The entire factory is under CCTV surveillance, with vigilant security personnel ensuring a secure environment. As a result, theft has been eliminated from this state-run enterprise.
With approval from the Department of Narcotics Control and the Department of Environment, Keru began bottling its country liquor anew on May 22.
This move has allowed the company itself to profit, rather than agents. Previously, country liquor supplied in drums was diluted with water by a syndicate, generating illegal profits worth crores of taka. Workers have urged the government to support efforts to preserve the company’s reputation.
Eight brands of foreign liquor are produced from molasses at the sugar mill. Additionally, the company produces country liquor, denatured and rectified spirit, white and malt vinegar. Since its establishment, Keru’s foreign liquor was bottled manually by hand. However, with the recent adoption of automation, production has increased significantly.
Managing Director Md. Rabbik Hasan said, the government’s modernization and transparency initiatives will continue to enhance the quality of Keru's products.
Established in 1938, Keru & Company has been producing both local and foreign branded liquors. Over the years, it has built a reputation for quality and continues to set profit records annually. The company is a large industrial complex comprising a sugar mill, spirit and liquor production facilities, an organic fertilizer plant, and commercial farms.
