The official journey of the Dhaka University Student Chapter of Materials Research Society (MRS), a US-based research organization, began on Saturday.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed formally inaugurated the organization as the chief guest in a function at the pharmacy lecture hall of the university. The organization was established with the students of different departments of science faculty of Dhaka University with the aim of creating interest in the research of various materials.

Advisor of the organization and professor of applied chemistry and chemical engineering department of Dhaka University. AFM Mostafizur Rahman presided over the opening ceremony of the Dean of Science Faculty. Abdus Salam spoke as special guest. The president of the organization is a student of applied chemistry and chemical engineering department. Sami-ul-Alam presented the entire program.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed highlighted the importance of materials research in various fields including science and biology. He said that the US-based organization Materials Research Society continues to play an effective role in the advancement of various branches of science. He expressed hope that the students will be able to easily enter the world of global knowledge and develop themselves more efficiently as the activities of the student chapter of MRS have started in Dhaka University. He appealed to the students to develop themselves as world-class graduates by participating in various international seminars, workshops and conferences by being associated with this organization.

It is to be noted that the cover of a publication of MRS-Dhaka University Chapter was unveiled at the opening ceremony. Besides, quiz competition is organized with students. 3 winners were awarded in the competition. An 11-member working committee of the organization was announced at the event.
