
DC holds meeting with stakeholders to keep prices of goods at affordable level in Gopalganj during Ramadan

A meeting was held by the Deputy Commissioner of Gopalganj with stakeholders to keep prices of goods at a bearable level on the occasion of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
The special exchange of views was held at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room "Swachhta" on Wednesday afternoon and was presided over by Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and learned District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman.
The exchange of views was moderated by Gopalganj Additional District Magistrate (ADM) SM Tarek Sultan. District Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman, Deputy Director (Deputy Secretary) of the Local Government Department and Gopalganj Municipal Administrator Bishwajit Kumar Pal, Chief Executive Officer of the District Council Amit Debnath, Government Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Prabir Biswas, Russell Munshi, BSTI Deputy Director (Metrology) Miah Md. Ashraful Alam, General Secretary of Gopalganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mosharraf Hossain Miah, media personnel working in various electronic and print media in the district, former president of Gopalganj District Jewelry Traders Association, Gopalganj Central Kalibari Temple Committee President, Bangladesh Puja Celebration Committee General Secretary Sanjay Biswas along with various business dealers and members of Gopalganj District Jewelry Traders Association were present.
In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman urged the traders to maintain the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan in Gopalganj Bara Bazar and other markets of the district, including the market, to sell the most sold products, especially soybean oil, chickpeas, gram flour, imported dates, muri and other daily commodities at fair prices. He also requested not to mix any harmful urea fertilizer/chemicals in the muri produced in the district and rotten pulses/wheat in gram flour. At this time, the district administration decided to operate more mobile courts in all districts and gave directions to the district law enforcement forces to maintain law and order on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr and prevent the use of fake money. In addition, the District Commissioner, after discussing with both parties to resolve the untoward incident that occurred between the leaders of the Gopalganj District Jewelry Traders Association during the market supervision of the officials and employees of Gopalganj District BSTI, requested the leaders of the Jewelry Traders Association to open their shops and conduct business without fear. In the meeting, the Jewelry Traders Association expressed deep regret for this untoward incident and decided to give a bond to ensure that such unpleasant incidents will not happen in the future. Business leader Mosharraf Hossain also demanded the immediate release of the detained jewelry trader.
It is mentioned that Ehsan Hossain, former general secretary of the Gopalganj District Jewelry Traders Association and proprietor of Hussain Jewelers, is currently in jail in the case filed in this incident.
Later, Gopalganj Deputy Commissioner and learned District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman declared the meeting over by assuring the businessmen present that effective steps will be taken to resolve the problem within the next 7 days or earlier.
