Chattogram City Correspondent
The bail hearing for Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, an expelled ISKCON leader and spokesperson for the Bangladesh United Sanatan Awakening Alliance, is scheduled for Tuesday, December 3, in the court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Saiful Islam, according to court officials.
Previously, on November 26, Chattogram’s Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam rejected his bail plea and ordered his imprisonment. Following this, supporters from the Sanatan community staged protests at the court premises, which escalated into violence. The situation was brought under control by police using sound grenades.
A sedition case was filed against Chinmoy Das on October 30. He was arrested at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport on November 25 and later shown arrested in a case filed at Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram.
His arrest sparked protests across the country, including in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar. In Chattogram, clashes erupted in the court area, leading to vandalism and obstruction of police duties. Three separate cases were filed by the police. Additionally, the father of slain lawyer Saiful Islam Alif lodged a murder case naming 31 accused, while Alif’s brother filed another case accusing 116 individuals of vandalism and attacks on the public.
The upcoming bail hearing is expected to be a pivotal moment in this high-profile case.
