The first phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad election was held on Wednesday.

Upazila Awami League Office Secretary and upazila chairman candidate Mohammad Manik Dorji and vice chairman candidate Riazul Hasan Riaz, a former member of Central Jubo League, have won the Matlab Uttar Upazila Parishad election in Chandpur.

In the results of 99 centers of 1 municipality and 14 unions of Matlab Uttar Upazila, the candidate of Ghora Pratik, Mohammad Manik Darji, got 34 thousand 280 votes and was elected privately. The nearest candidate Zahirabad Union Awami League president and upazila chairman candidate Anaras Pratikar Muktar Gazi got 16 thousand 669 votes. Upazila Awami League general secretary and upazila chairman candidate Veer Muktijoddha MA Quddus cup-piritch got 14 thousand 723 votes.

Assistant Returning Officer and Upazila Election Officer Abu Taher announced the results at the result collection and environment center at Matlab North Upazila Parishad Auditorium on Wednesday, May 8 afternoon.

Meanwhile, as the chairman and vice chairman were elected, the activists and supporters cheered, marched and distributed misti.

Meanwhile, newly elected upazila chairman Manik Dorji said, this victory is not mine. This victory is for everyone. Grateful to those who have supported by voting, praying and giving wise advice. Everyone should pray for me, so that I can serve you in happiness and sorrow with the support of Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Birvikram, Member of Parliament of Chandpur-2 Constituency.

Newly elected Vice Chairman Riazul Hasan Riaz said, I express my gratitude to the people of Matlab North for electing me. With the cooperation of honorable MP sir, I want everyone's prayers so that I can serve you.

It is to be noted that the general secretary of Upazila Mahila Awami League, Lovely Chowdhury, was elected unqualified as a single candidate for the post of female vice chairman.

On the other hand, Matlab South Upazila Chairman Mustafa Talukder, Vice Chairman Akhi was elected.

On the same day, polling was held from 8 am to 4 pm non-stop in 58 centers of the upazila. Out of 1 lakh 97 thousand 26 voters, 46 thousand 495 voters exercised their right to vote. VET application rate is 23.60 %.

Three candidates competed for the post of chairman. Prof. Sirajul Mostafa Talukder (Pratik Doat Kalam) was privately elected as the chairman after receiving a maximum 16 thousand 910 votes. His nearest rival Syed Manjar Hussain Ripon (Pineapple symbol) got 16 thousand 116 votes. The other candidate, the current chairman BHM Kabir Ahmed (Horse symbol) got 13 thousand 361 votes.

On the other hand, Nazma Akhter (Ankhi), Prateik Football, was elected privately for the post of female vice chairman by getting 23 thousand 245 votes. His only rival Shahinur Begum Sheela Moni (Prateik Hans) got 23 thousand 22 votes. The margin of votes for the post of chairman is 794 votes and the margin of votes for the post of female vice chairman is 213.

Besides, Shaukat Ali Dewan Badal was elected unopposed for the post of male vice chairman.

Upazila Election Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Abu Jaher Bhua announced the result at Matlab Dakshin Upazila Parishad auditorium on Wednesday night.
