Sacrifice market has gathered in Sherpur of Bogura. Along with this, the price of sacrificial animals is increasing.

Raising the price of cow-fodder has increased the rearing cost. Because of this, the farmers were worried. Gradually that apprehension has passed. The price and market of sacrificial animals is now on the upswing.

Some farmers are selling sacrificial animals at the rate of Tk 550 per kg this year, which was Tk 480 last year. Accordingly, the price has increased by an average of 15 percent.

It is learnt that various farmers have been fattened cows, buffaloes, goats and sheep like every year around the coming Eid-Ul-Azha. As Eid is approaching, farmers and cattle farmers are busy taking care of their animals. Ahead of the Eid of Sacrifice. People buy cows, buffaloes and goats six to 11 months before and start rearing them for Eid-Ul-Adha.

Sherpur Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Raihan PAA said that apart from professional farmers, approximately six thousand farmers have fattened one to two cows and goats.

This time the target of sacrificial animals in the upazila is 57 thousand 922. However, farmers and marginal farmers have prepared about 70 thousand 162 animals this time. Among them, 18 thousand 835 bulls, 6 thousand 836 oxen, 4 thousand 572 cows, 114 buffaloes, 36 thousand 673 goats, 3 thousand 132 sheep are ready. All these animals will be traded for about 365 crore taka. About 12 thousand 240 additional animals will be supplied elsewhere in the country. Farmers will benefit from it.

He also said that there are 11 permanent and temporary haat markets in 10 unions and 1 municipality of Sherpur upazila for buying and selling sacrificial animals. All these markets are regularly buying and selling animals. The Directorate of Animal Resources advises farmers to stop the use of harmful drugs in fattening cows to ensure the safety of sacrificial animals and supervises the farms.
