Brutal murder at Midford : Burial of Sohag completed, shadow of mourning in Barguna

The burial of Lal Chand alias Sohag, a Bhangari businessman who was brutally murdered in an extortion case in Mitford, Dhaka, has been completed at his maternal grandfather's house in Islampur village of Dhalua Union in Sadar Upazila of Barguna, his home district. The murder of Sohag has cast a shadow of mourning across Barguna district.
He was buried next to his mother's grave in Raybhog village of Barguna Sadar Upazila on Friday morning.
It is learnt that Sohag has two children - daughter Sohana (14) is studying in class 6 and son Sohan (11) is studying in class 4. Sohag has been involved in the scrap metal business in Dhaka for a long time. Initially, he worked under someone else, but for the past five years, he has been running the business himself.
Sohag was brutally murdered in front of Gate No. 3 of Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital in Old Dhaka at around 6 pm on Wednesday (July 9). He was beaten to death on the head and chest with rods and large stones in front of witnesses. Footage of the attackers celebrating and throwing stones in his face after the murder went viral on social media, sparking outrage and criticism across the country.
Police and family sources say that Sohag had a close relationship with Moin, a local youth group leader. Although they were once close, a dispute recently broke out when Moin demanded half of his business. Law enforcement officials said the murder stemmed from this dispute.
In this incident, the elder sister of the deceased Sohag, Manjuara Begum, has filed a murder case naming 19 people and 15-20 unidentified people as accused. After the case, the police conducted a drive and arrested two people named Mahmudul Hasan Mohin and Tarique Rahman Robin. A pistol and country-made weapons were recovered from them. The arrested people are currently on remand in two separate cases under the murder and arms acts.
The brutal murder, which took place in front of hundreds of people, has sparked outrage across the country. The family of the deceased Sohag and the general public of Barguna have demanded exemplary punishment for the killers.
