
Bangladeshi Police Officer arrested after Illegal border crossing into India

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested a Bangladeshi police officer for illegally crossing the Kakdanga border into West Bengal on Saturday evening.
The officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md. Arifuzzaman, was formerly posted at APBn-2 in Muktagacha, Mymensingh. He had earlier served under Rangpur Metropolitan Police but was suspended in October 2023 for misconduct, unauthorized absence, and fleeing duty.
Police confirmed that five cases, including murder charges, are pending against him in Rangpur.
BSF handed him over to Swarupnagar Police Station in Basirhat Sub-Division, North 24 Parganas district, where he remains in custody.
Bangladesh’s Border Guard (BGB) in Kakdanga said the matter is under investigation.
