Bangladeshi expats demand to waive fee for sending remittance

Bangladeshi expatriates in Italy have urged the government for taking measures to waive fee in sending remittance through legal channels by establishing any scheduled bank.

They also demanded for raising the ceiling of wage earners bond, paying money quickly to remittance recipients in Bangladesh banks, starting operation of agent banking of Janata Exchange Co in Italy and depositing savings of expatriates and sending the amount to Bangladesh, if necessary, were placed during a discussion at Bangladesh Consulate General in Milan recently.

The discussants also identified the reasons over sending money through Hundi and urged the government to take measures to stop illegal transaction of remittance.

Addressing the programme, Consul General MJH Jabed urged the North Italian diaspora to form a social movement aimed at legally sending remittances to Bangladesh.

He said that the consulate is committed to providing better consular services to expatriates and that all efforts will continue to be made by the consulate to solve the problems of expatriates in sending remittances through legal channels.

He also presented a power-point presentation highlighting all the possible pitfalls in the economy of Bangladesh if expats send remittance through digital hundi, said a press release.

Bangladesh Consulate General Milan’s Labor Consul Sabbir Ahmed, Vice-Consul ASM Taj-ul-Islam and Janata Bank Limited Assistant General Manager Md Shahadat Hussain were present along with people involved in the money transfer business in Northern Italy, remittance senders and community leaders.
