ACC Chairman Dr Momen in Pabna : ACC will increase its independence if it becomes constitutional institution

Pabna Correspondent

Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen has commented that the ACC will increase its independence if it becomes a constitutional institution.

He said this while interacting with journalists after a public hearing on various complaints of the general public at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Wednesday afternoon.

ACC Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen said, the ACC Reform Commission has already made a proposal to make the ACC a constitutional institution. If it is approved, the ACC will be able to play a greater role in preventing corruption.

He also said that although the ACC has limitations in its independence, the ACC is trying its best within the freedom it has. Everyone has a responsibility to ensure transparency and accountability at the field level in providing government services. Here, the ACC is working to alleviate the suffering of the common people.

In response to a question from media personnel, the ACC Chairman said, the results of using the ACC as a political oppressor in the past were not good. All those who did so are suffering the consequences. We will have to work with this in mind in the future. He also said that if there is specific evidence of corruption in the cases filed against political figures, they will continue.

Regarding the various complaints presented at the public hearing in Pabna, the ACC Chairman said, most of the complaints of the victims are true. We have resolved some of these problems, and instructions have been given for some more remedies. The public hearing is organized to warn service providers so that the common people do not suffer at the field level. 152 complaints of harassment in the areas of land, healthcare, and local government services were presented at the public hearing.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mofizul Islam, ACC Commissioner (Investigation) Brigadier General (Retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid, Director General Akhtar Hossain, Superintendent of Police Mortoza Ali Khan, District Corruption Prevention Committee President Dr. Monowar ul Aziz and ACC Divisional Director Kamrul Ahsan also spoke at the event.
