58 BGB destroys huge quantity of drugs

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has destroyed a huge quantity of drugs and various prohibited medicines seized from the 104-kilometer area of Chuadanga and Jhenaidah border.
 
The drug destruction ceremony was held at  Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) headquarters on Thursday morning.
 
The chief guest at the ceremony was Brigadier General Md. Humayun Kabir, PSC, BGB Jessore Region Commander. Also present were Colonel Ahsan Habib, PSC, G+, Sector Commander of Kushtia Sector, Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Alam, PSC, Commander of Maheshpur Battalion, and other officers and members of the BGB.
 
Senior officers of the administration and police of Jhenaidah and Chuadanga districts, officers of the Narcotics Control Department, and journalists from electronic, print and online media were also present at the ceremony.
 
The seized narcotics and banned medicines were destroyed in the operations conducted in the border areas from February 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025. These include 25,813 bottles of Indian Phensidyl, 38,980 bottles of Indian liquor, 130.951 kg of marijuana, 65,974 pieces of Yaba, 36.791 kg of heroin, 78.940 kg of cocaine, 6.299 kg of crystal meth ice, 29 bottles of LSD, 21,316 pieces of Viagra tablets, 3,070 pieces of Tapentadol tablets, 9,845 pieces of Indian medicines and 9,960 pieces of Bangladeshi medicines.
 
The estimated market value of the destroyed narcotics and medicines is Tk 119 crore 64 lakh 83 thousand 202. Acting Quartermaster and Assistant Director of BGB's 58th Battalion Mohammad Saiful Islam gave this information.
