
33 fishermen detained with 30 lakh meters of illegal current nets in Hatiya

In Hatiya of Noakhali, 33 fishermen have been detained along with 30 lakh meters of illegal current nets worth approximately Tk 10.5 crore, following an attack on Coast Guard members centering the seizure of the banned nets.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque provided this information in a press release.on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the press release, to prevent illegal fishing in the internal and maritime waters of Bangladesh and to ensure proper breeding of marine fish, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been conducting regular operations.
As part of this initiative, based on secret information, on Monday, July 21 at 4 PM, Bangladesh Coast Guard Station Hatiya conducted a special operation in the Meghna River adjacent to Chairman Ghat under Hatiya Police Station in Noakhali. During the operation, while fishing with illegal current nets, 33 fishermen were detained from two fishing boats along with 30 lakh meters of illegal current nets worth Tk 10.5 crore. During this time, when the Coast Guard operation team chased another fishing boat, the fishermen suddenly launched an attack. As a result, one Coast Guard member and one boatman were injured.
Later, the seized illegal current nets were destroyed in the presence of the Upazila Fisheries Officer, and legal proceedings are underway against the detained fishermen and the seized fishing boats.
To maintain the law and order situation in the country, similar operations will continue in the future by the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
