Protest rally demanding drainage to solve waterlogging in Subarnachar
Md. Redwan Hossain, Subarnachar ( Noakhali)
Residents of Subarnachar in Noakhali held a protest rally and human chain demanding canal excavation and culvert construction to resolve waterlogging on Tuesday morning.
The program was organized at the local Tara Market area of Charclark Union No. 3 by the private development organization “Nijerai Kori” with support from the Landless Association and the affected people of the area.
During the human chain, locals said that the area of West Charuria Mauza in Charclark Union has been suffering severe hardship due to prolonged waterlogging. Yet, no canal excavation has been done to address the problem. As a result, every rainy season, waterlogging occurs in this area, destroying crops worth billions of taka for farmers. In the last season, farmers who took loans from NGOs to cultivate crops faced heavy financial losses due to crop damage caused by waterlogging.
The locals demanded urgent excavation of a connecting canal to eliminate the waterlogging problem. They appealed to the government and concerned authorities to pay attention to this issue.
The human chain was attended by Nijerai Kori’s District Coordinator Paritosh Debnath, local representative Suresh Karmakar, Charclark Union BNP leader Md. Siraj, various political leaders, and prominent persons from the area.
